(€ 20,00) Come acquistare

Volti, paesaggi, cultura e spiritualità in oltre 180 fotografie inedite.

(€ 20,00) How to buy

Faces, landscapes, culture and spirituality in more than 180 previously unpublished photographs. A leap into the clarity of limpid skies at high altitude, a race among the sinuous dunes on the valley floor, one's gaze captivated by the profundity of the faces, by the dancing movement of colours during sacred rituals - this is the secret of the magic exerted by this book. A photographic journey illustrated by the photographer Giampietro Mattolin's images and recounted by the storyteller Piero Verni. An inspired homage to a thousand-year-old culture, some aspects of which are still undiscovered.

A photographer and a writer have concentrated their love for the Himalayas and for the experience of travel into a deeply-felt reportage in which the photographic lens and the pen work in synergy. So this book takes a curious and attentive look at an unknown world… at the eyes of young monks, the colours of fabrics, the chromatic combinations of a landscape suspended between dream and reality - the dream of a journey, the reality of local people. Mattolin's images and Verni's writings tell of a fantastic region which enchants us in the West… a world where Tantric Buddhism blends with the ancient magic of Mustang, with the coloured sands of Bhutan, with the phantasmagorical celebration of Dosmoche in Ladakh, with the chortens of Sikkim.

The photographic album is divided into three sections. "Places" contains photos of the grandiose panoramas of Spiti, Zanskar, Rupshu, Mustang and Ladakh. "Portraits" is dedicated to the people who inhabit these regions - shyly beautiful women, men whose faces have been weathered by wind and sun, and above all, children with beaming smiles. And finally that "Spirituality" which pervades all everyday gestures, even the most simple of them. So we feel that this fine book speaks directly to our hearts, introducing us to a reality which commercial expeditions to the Himalayas have all too frequently ignored or even trampled on, and which authors like Mattolin and Verni help us to discover and make our own. The volume is well made, richly evocative, precious in its binding and photographic quality. It is a "must" for all lovers of photography and of nature, and for those who wish to encounter and learn about an ancient and noble civilisation
